Los Angeles Music Festival® founder Floyd Vasquez in Colombia for the holidays.

Happy New Year! And thank you music people in 100+ countries who listened to Los Angeles Music Festival® during 2018.

I’m writing to ask you to consider buying music as akin to donating to public radio. You don’t have to. You can listen for free and nobody will know. Same with music. Music fans used to support the music ecosystem by buying records, CDs and MP3s. Being a fan meant spending more than $10 a month to listen to music and as a result artists had a revenue stream directly connected to their recorded music output.

I get it. Paying Spotify $10 a month for all the world’s music is a pretty good deal for you, Spotify and mega superstars, but the rest are struggling to make it work.

If music is an important part of your life, my New Year’s wish is for you to consider buying albums and songs not because it’s required, but because you can and want to. We need music. Artists, musicians and others in the music ecosystem need sustenance.
